Wood

Ash

Canadian Ash wood is known for its distinctive grain pattern, which ranges from straight to wavy. When painted, this wood will show a subtle grain pattern in the texture of the finish. When stained, this wood will take up the stain in the grain beautifully - it’s a shop favourite!

Maple

Canadian Maple is a hard wood known for its durability. When painted, this wood will give you a smooth finish. When stained, this wood will show a soft, minimal grain pattern.

Painted Finishes

Our standard high quality paint finish provides a beautiful opaque (solid) coverage. Finished with a matte gloss lacquer clear coat for added durability.

Our Vintage paint finish is a two-step finish which is achieved by staining the chair in a beautiful wood tone with a painted finish on top. The painted finish is then painstakingly rubbed off on the areas of the chair that would see high use over time such as the seat, arms and legs to reveal the wood tone underneath to create the “vintage” aged look that we often see on antique pieces.

Stained Finishes

Our custom stain finishes provide a translucent colour that deeply penetrate and enhance the natural grain of the wood. Finished with a matte gloss clear coat for added durability.

Care & Maintenance

  • Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Use a mild soap solution for stubborn dirt, wiping gently along the wood grain.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, ammonia-based cleaners, and excess water. Dry immediately with a clean, dry cloth after cleaning.

Seagrass

Our seagrass seats are beautifully handcrafted from strands of seagrass twisted into rope for weaving. The rope is skillfully woven together by hand in various patterns around the frame to create a naturally supportive surface with some give for comfort. The seagrass seats will have a slightly green hue when newly woven but turn a beautiful muted tan tone as it ages. Seagrass is an organic material with naturally occurring variations in tone, making each piece unique.

Care & Maintenance

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth in the direction of the seagrass strands. Wiping in another direction may force loose debris between the strands.
  • Gently dab and blot spills immediately with a damp cloth. Do not rub. Rubbing can cause permanent abrasion damage to the seagrass.
  • Gently vacuum periodically with a soft brush attachment periodically to prevent debris from lodging between the seagrass strands.
  • Seagrass is a natural material. As seagrass ages it will turn a beautiful shade of tan. Use your chair indoors and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve the beauty of this natural material.
  • Avoid putting undue stress like kneeling or standing on the seat.
  • Do not pull on the small grass-like fibers that may protrude from the seagrass strands as you may cause damage. The fibers add to the natural, organic appearance however should you wish to remove them, please do so carefully by trimming with scissors.

Babiche

Our babiche (natural rawhide) seats are handcrafted by soaking long rawhide strips until soft and weaving them around the frame in a beautiful pattern. The rawhide shrinks as it dries and hardens to create a very durable, supportive and beautiful surface.

Please note, all stained finishes (Honey, Amber, and Stout) will feature a stained finish on the seats and rails for babiche seats.

Please note, all babiche seats with our painted finishes will feature a natural protective finish on the seat rails and the babiche.

Sheepskin

Care & Maintenance

Shake and/or vacuum your sheepskin occasionally to remove dust and debris. In the event of a spill or stain, mix wool-specific detergent with warm water to produce foam. Using foam only (never soak or submerge sheepskin in water - it will harden the suede on the back), work the foam over the affected area and pat dry with a clean cloth. Shake and leave to dry, finish with a combing Alternatively, your sheepskin can be dry-cleaned. Do not leave sheepskins in direct sunlight as it may result in colour change.

Wool Blend Fabrics

Care & Maintenance

  • Brush off and vacuum regularly to prevent ground in soiling.
  • Avoid sharp objects and prolonged exposure to sunlight.
  • Professional cleaning is recommended.

Leather

Care & Maintenance

  • Dust with a dry cloth regularly as dirt and dust act as abrasives on leather.
  • Keep leather away from direct sunlight and away from direct heat. Leather requires a “normal range” of humidity for optimal lifespan.
  • Never use abrasive or chemical cleaners, saddle soap, oils, detergents or furniture polish on leather. Should spills occur, blot immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth. Most liquids will be initially repelled by leather, but if left over an extended period may be absorbed.
  • Gentle wiping is all that most spills require. Gently wipe the area with a soft, dampened sponge; blot from just beyond the stain to the centre of the stain. If required, use a mild soap and water solution and follow the instructions as above. Do not apply vigorous rubbing or use coarse cloths as these can damage the surface of the leather.
  • Blot dry with a clean dry cloth and allow the leather to air dry in normal room temperature. Allowing leather ample time to dry between attempts at cleaning is important as wet or damp leather is vulnerable to wear and tear.
  • Spot removal of red wine or chewing gum or restoring dry leather should not be attempted without consulting a specialist.
